Surf Camp Azores

The Surf Camp

Volcanic peaks, black sand beaches and jungle-green hills — welcome to São Miguel, the Azorean island travellers have started calling "European Hawaii," and our surf lodge sits right in the middle of it.

Our eco-friendly lodge is on the north coast near Ribeira Grande, walking distance from the beaches of Praia do Areal de Santa Bárbara and Praia do Monte Verde, with sustainable touches throughout — solar panels, recycling systems and water filtration built right into the property.

Whether you're paddling out for your first lesson or exploring the island's volcanic hot springs between sessions, this is a surf trip built around a landscape unlike anywhere else in Europe.

Our Azores package is built around a daily breakfast, three yoga sessions, a Wine & Cheese Tasting, and an included excursion to the island’s historic tea plantation. The lodge itself is genuinely cozy — a communal living room, a large dining room, a terrace with its own private pool, a yoga pavilion, and space to surf skate right on the property, with cruisers and surf skates free to borrow any time. Between surf sessions, the island offers whale and dolphin watching, mountain biking, and relaxed hikes to hot springs and waterfalls — with unique black volcanic sand and crystal-clear water right on your doorstep.

Meals
A fresh, varied breakfast buffet is included every morning — muesli, local bread, regional cheese, jam, Nutella and fruit straight from the market, with coffee, locally grown tea, orange juice and fresh eggs from the lodge's own chickens.

Dinner is bookable on-site for €15–20 a night on three evenings a week, ranging from traditional and international dishes cooked with market-fresh ingredients to BBQs at nearby viewpoints, always paired with a glass of Portuguese wine.
Surf Lessons
Our surf courses run in small groups of no more than five, at the beach break that best suits the day's conditions on either the island's north or south coast.

Every instructor is certified by the Portuguese Surfing Federation and the ISA, with lifeguard training and top-quality Ocean and Earth equipment included throughout — group lessons run 1.5 to 2 hours with pick-up and drop-off included, and private coaching is also available for those who want one-on-one attention.
Surf Equipment
Surf equipment is included during your booked lessons, and surf skates and cruisers are free to borrow from the lodge any time, with optional surf skate lessons also available.
Camp Activities
The lodge's private pool, yoga pavilion and surf skate space are the heart of camp life, with three included yoga sessions a week led by our local guide Catarina.

An included excursion takes you to the Gorreana tea plantation, Europe's oldest still in operation, and the cozy living room and dining room are where everyone gathers to swap stories over dinner and a glass of wine.
