About Llewellyn Whittaker
Llewellyn, known to his surfers as Coach Lu, has one passion: helping surfers get better. Over the years he has run training camps, coaching programmes, workshops and surf contests.
He has worked with national teams at the ISA World Surfing Championships, and with provincial and state teams to develop their surfers, upskill their coaches and build pathways to success. His coaching style is so distinctive that he now runs workshops for other coaches too.
From early 2024 he coached China’s Hebei provincial surf team, taking the team’s top athlete to a National Championship title within a year, ahead of larger, more established provinces.
Since finishing that contract in June 2025, he has focused on sharing his high-performance coaching with surfers of every level, through small-group performance weeks in Taghazout, Morocco, and bespoke surf adventures along his home coastline in South Africa.

A bespoke surf adventure along Llewellyn’s home coastline: six nights in Jeffreys Bay and three in Mossel Bay, with surfing, wildlife, braais and real South African hospitality along the way. Strictly limited to 3 people per trip, with just 9 places across 2027.

- Morocco is full board, so all your meals are covered
- South Africa doesn't include meals, but good food is cheap and easy to find along the way
