Beachfront Surf Camp, Ahangama

The Surf Camp

Step off your terrace and the beach is right there — soft white sand, warm water, and a wave breaking just metres from your door. Our Sri Lanka camp sits directly on Kathaluwa beach, on the island's laid-back south coast near Ahangama, one of the best beginner-to-advanced surf stretches in Asia.

It's a proper beachfront surf camp with a home break that works nearly every day of the season, plus a string of world-class spots — Kabalana, Weligama, Mirissa and beyond — all a short tuk-tuk ride away.

Whether you're standing up for the first time or chasing your first barrel, our experienced local surf guides and instructors will get you there, then leave you free to fall into the slow, sun-soaked rhythm of Sri Lankan life.

Our Sri Lanka package is built around daily surf guiding or coaching, generous sea-view rooms just steps from the water, and a kitchen that keeps you fed with fresh, home-cooked meals and a weekly seafood barbecue on the beach. The camp itself sits right on Kathaluwa beach, with the surf, a shaded garden, hammock corners, and the camp’s own restaurant and bar all within arm’s reach — so between sessions, there’s really nowhere else you need to be. Sri Lanka’s surf season runs from October to May, when the south coast lines up warm water, offshore winds and waves for every level, from playful beginner rollers to punchy reef breaks for the more experienced. Telha, with the beach, surf spot and a handful of relaxed beach bars all within a minute’s walk.

Accommodation

Newly built, sea views from every room
Included
Every room at our Sri Lanka camp was built new, with a clean, modern style and — without exception — a sea view. Choose a private double or twin for two, a sociable three-share, or bunk down in our six-bed dorm; whichever you pick, you're never more than a few steps from the sand.

Double Room Ensuite — Private ensuite bathroom, sea view and, in most rooms, direct access onto the beach through your own terrace door. Ideal for couples or two friends wanting a bit more privacy.

2 Bed Twin Room Ensuite — A bright, ground-floor twin with its own bathroom, two wardrobes and a terrace opening straight onto the beach. Great for two friends, or families travelling with a young child.

3 Bed Room Ensuite — A spacious shared room with its own bathroom and plenty of storage. The best-value option for solo travellers happy to share, or small groups who want to stay together.

6 Bed Dorm Ensuite — Our most social room option, air-conditioned and ensuite, with sea-facing windows — the easy way to meet the rest of camp.

Shared terrace and communal lounge with hammocks and sea views for evenings in.

Your Package Includes

Accommodation
Every room — from private doubles to our six-bed dorm — comes with its own ensuite bathroom, air conditioning and a sea view, just steps from Kathaluwa beach.
Meals
Breakfast is included daily, served buffet-style overlooking the ocean, with fresh local fruit, muesli and cooked options to choose from.

Dinner is served five evenings a week, across a mix of Sri Lankan, Mediterranean and Asian dishes, including a weekly seafood barbecue on the beach, with vegetarian and vegan options always available.
Surf Lessons
Beginner Surfer: Best for first-timers, or anyone wanting to rebuild the basics properly. Our beginner course runs right on the camp's home break at Kathaluwa — a clean, current-free beach break with no rocks — covering safety, paddling, pop-up technique and catching your first green waves, backed by theory sessions and video analysis.

Intermediate Surfer: For surfers comfortable standing up who want more time in the water. Sessions move between Kathaluwa and the nearby South Point Beach, and out to the famous Kabalana A-frame, helping you build timing, positioning and the confidence to start linking rides.

Advanced Surfer: For confident surfers after Sri Lanka's punchier reef breaks. Our guides take you out to Rams, Lazy Left, Plantations and Coconuts in neighbouring Midigama — fast, hollow waves for experienced surfers — with a tuk-tuk spot transfer to wherever the swell is best that day, plus video analysis.
Surf Equipment
Board hire is available at camp for free surfing outside of guiding and course times.
Camp Activities
Kathaluwa beach and its surf spot sit right outside your door, so a dawn wave check or sunset swim is never more than a minute away.

Weekly yoga sessions build the strength and flexibility surfing demands, and optional day trips into the hinterland, to the old fort town of Galle, or out on a boat party make it easy to build a change of scene into your week.
