The Surf Camp

Tucked between the dunes and the Atlantic on Portugal's quiet Costa de Prata, this surf camp sits right on Praia da Vagueira- a wide, sheltered beach that's stayed well clear of mass tourism, with excellent surf conditions all year round.

Home is a proper surf villa: mostly twin rooms, a suite with its own bathroom and terrace for couples, a huge open-fire living room for the cooler evenings, and terraces where you can check the waves with your morning coffee.

Small groups of up to eight keep the coaching properly personal, whatever your level- and with the lagoon of Ria de Aveiro on one side and open Atlantic on the other, there's always somewhere good to paddle out.

Days here run on breakfast buffets, three-hour surf sessions and long, easy evenings- dinner cooked or grilled by the camp team five nights a week, with everyone gathered at one long table under the sky. Beyond the surfing, there’s yoga and massage on site, a first-class skatepark just down the road, and kitesurfing, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking and horse riding all bookable through the camp’s local partners.

And when you want to explore further, the historic canal city of Aveiro, the mountains of the Serra da Estrela and the university town of Coimbra are all within easy reach.

Your own surf villa on the dunes
Included
Our surf villa has everything you need for a proper stay between sessions. Most rooms sleep two, giving you plenty of space to rest up before the next paddle out, and our private suite- with its own bathroom and terrace- is ideal if you're travelling as a couple.

Multi-bed rooms are just as well thought out, with built-in wardrobes, smoke detectors and big windows that let the light flood in. A couple of rooms open straight onto one of the terraces, so you can soak up the Portuguese sun and eye up the waves without leaving your room. Need a single or a triple? Just ask and we'll do our best to sort it.

There's a relaxed chill-out space to swap stories with fellow surfers, and when the temperature drops, the spacious living room with its open fireplace is the place to warm up. WiFi runs throughout the house too, so you can keep everyone back home updated on how good the trip's going. Pretty much everything a surf house should be.

Accommodation summary
The camp is based in a spacious surf villa right on the dunes, with sea views, wraparound terraces and a genuinely homely feel.

Mostly twin rooms, with multi-bed rooms available for groups and a private suite- complete with its own bathroom and terrace access- for anyone after a bit more space.

Every room has built-in wardrobes, smoke detectors and big windows for plenty of natural light. There's a cosy chill-out area, a large living room with an open fireplace for colder evenings, and WiFi throughout the house.
Meals
Breakfast is a proper buffet spread- juices, coffee, tea and hot chocolate, cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruit, bread rolls, jam and honey, cold cuts and cheese, plus a rotating weekly special.

Help-yourself snacks are available through the day (grilled sandwiches, fruit, cold cuts and cheese), and dinner is cooked or grilled by the camp team five nights a week, served family-style at one long table outside whenever the weather allows. Local and international dishes both feature, and vegetarian and vegan options are available for every meal.
Surf Lessons
Coaching is split into beginner and advanced courses, both run in small groups of no more than eight, with three hours of instruction a day from licensed, experienced surf coaches.

Beginners get properly grounded in the basics- paddling, wave reading, safe positioning in the water and your first take-offs, backed up by theory sessions on how waves, weather, currents and tides actually work. Advanced surfers work on controlled take-offs and rides on green waves, making the most of the region's numerous point breaks.

Every course includes video analysis so you can actually see what you're doing right (and wrong), and private lessons are available on request for anyone chasing something more specific.
Surf Equipment
Top-quality surfboards and wetsuits are included with every course, matched to your ability and the day's conditions.
Camp Activities
Yoga sessions (45 minutes, minimum two people) are available on site- a good way to loosen up before or unwind after a session in the water- alongside a full massage menu: relax massage, hot stones, Tibetan singing bowls and Reiki.

A first-class skatepark sits just down the road in Gafanha da Nazaré, perfect for keeping your balance sharp between surf sessions on a skateboard or longboard.

Through the camp's local partners you can also book kitesurfing, windsurfing, sailing and catamaran sessions, kayaking on the lagoon, and horse riding along the beach at sunset.
