Praia da Luz sits on Portugal's western Algarve coast, a whitewashed former fishing village with dramatic cliffs on either side and consistent Atlantic swell for most of the year.
The Home Break: Praia da Luz. Right in front of the village, Praia da Luz is a reef break with a quality right-hander, working best on a west to northwest swell with offshore winds and holding its shape best on a high tide. It's a step up in skill, so it suits intermediate surfers who already have some reef experience.
More Breaks Close By. A short drive west brings you to Burgau, a sheltered, south-facing beach break tucked between high cliffs, with a mellow inside section that's ideal for beginners and first-timers, plus rights further out on the biggest winter swells.
