WHAT’S WAITING FOR YOU AT OUR SURF CAMP

Outer Reef Surf Camp Uluwatu is all about waking up close to the ocean and letting the day follow the conditions. Perched on the Bukit cliffs, the camp feels like a calm lookout over one of the most famous surf zones in the world. You are close enough to feel the energy of Uluwatu, but tucked into a space that is made for switching off between sessions.

Most days start simply. Breakfast, coffee, and a quick check of the swell and wind before you decide how you want to surf. Some guests book a lesson and keep it structured, others ease into the day and plan for a longer free surf later. When the timing is right, you head out for warm water waves, then come back to the camp for the best part of surf travel: rinsing off, slowing down, and feeling like you have nowhere else you need to be.

Afternoons are made for balance. Post surf naps, reading on the terrace, stretching out tired shoulders, or heading out to explore the Bukit. Uluwatu is full of small adventures that do not need a big plan, temple visits, cliff viewpoints, beach stops, and local food spots when you want to change it up. Back at camp, you can keep things quiet or stay social. The vibe is friendly and easy, with people naturally coming together for sunset chats, shared meals, and that relaxed post surf glow.

Yoga is there when you want it, whether you use it for recovery, mobility, or just to reset your head after time in the sun. It fits naturally into the rhythm here, especially if you are surfing more than you normally would at home. Evenings tend to feel unforced, dinner, a drink, maybe some live music or a low key hang, then an early night if you have a good tide window the next morning.

Overall, expect a camp that is wave led, warm, and intentionally simple: great views, a strong daily routine if you want it, and the freedom to keep your trip flexible while still feeling looked after.

About Our Camp

Surf Coaching & Guiding at Uluwatu Bali surf camps, Indonesia

Surf in Uluwatu is legendary, and the camp is positioned so you can feel that energy every day while still having a friendly entry point for learning. Coaching here is about making reef surf approachable, building real confidence, and helping you progress without losing the joy of being in warm water, in a world class setting.

How The Surf Sessions Work

Lessons are run as 2 hour sessions and take place at Baby Padang, a smaller, more manageable reef break close to the camp, chosen for its playful, consistent waves.

Key details:

  • Lesson length: 2 hours
  • Group ratio: 1 instructor to 8 students
  • Spot: Baby Padang reef break, walking distance from the camp
  • Water temp is typically 25 to 30 C
  • Surf booties are recommended due to the reef

The Surf Coaches & Guides

Sessions are led by friendly local instructors who focus on surf fundamentals and safety, while also sharing local surf culture and how the lineup works in Uluwatu. The goal is to help you feel comfortable in the water and confident in the decisions you are making

Progression & Support

Progression is built around the essentials: safety, etiquette, reading the surf zone, and developing reliable technique (paddling, pop up, stance, balance, and wave catching).

As you improve, Uluwatu offers a natural pathway beyond the learner wave. The camp sits beside famous breaks like Padang Padang and Impossibles, so there is plenty to work toward if you have the skills and experience for more challenging reef surf.

Equipment

For lessons, equipment is provided:

  • Soft top surfboard
  • Leash
  • Lycra

For unguided surfing, free surf is available for experienced surfers, with surfboards available to rent.

BEGINNER SURFER

If you are new to surfing, this is a rare chance to learn in warm water, steps from a wave that is chosen specifically to be more approachable than the heavy Uluwatu names. Beginner coaching focuses on safety, reef awareness, and building the fundamentals so you can catch waves with control and leave the water feeling confident.

INTERMEDIATE SURFER

Intermediate surfers can use Baby Padang to sharpen consistency and timing, then start building the skills needed for more demanding reef conditions. Coaching helps you tighten up technique, improve wave selection, and surf with more confidence in a lineup that can be busy at times.

ADVANCED SURFER

For advanced surfers, Uluwatu is about access and options. With iconic breaks like Padang Padang and Impossibles right nearby, this camp is a strong base for experienced surfers who want to stay close to world class waves, choose the right sessions, and balance hard surf days with yoga, good food, and recovery in a cliffside setting
